Wi-Fi flies in Oxford.

Insight Media successfully install another iCAM hosted Wi-Fi project in Oxford Libraries.

The citizens and students at Oxford tap into new Wi-Fi Hot Spot within hours.

After only a few weeks since the iCAM Wi-Fi installation the new wireless service at the Oxford Central Library is proving such a hit with visitors as they use their own wireless devices in the comfortable surroundings within the library.

On the first day of the iCAM wireless implementation at Oxford Central Library, Don Davidson Insight’s IT Technician confirmed that at least 40 unique public users had logged in to Oxford Libraries within a few hours of setting up the new iCAM Wi-Fi Hot Spot. This was a brilliant take up of a service that hadn’t been advertised or promoted yet.

The City of Oxford a thriving and lively Hot Spot hub with so many Wi-Fi outlets, see users taking Wi-Fi in their stride as they connect their laptops, PDAs and smart phones to the new wireless facilities now available at the Central Library. In fact, after only a few weeks since the Wi-Fi installation the new service is proving such a hit with visitors as they use their own wireless devices in the comfortable surroundings within the library.

Recent statistics show that the wireless activity at the Central Library has already delivered 5,680 Wi-Fi sessions, recorded visits from at least 1,303 unique public users and provided 149,130 minutes (2,485 hours) of concurrent Wi-Fi used time. This is an impressive take-up of Wi-Fi utilisation by any standard and so re-enforces Oxfordshire Libraries strategy in enhancing the services provided to the public library users in Oxford.

Oxfordshire Libraries commented “Oxfordshire Libraries felt the need to extend its services by offering a place where people can work in various areas within the Central Library building using their own laptops and wireless devices. We thought the Central Library would be an ideal location to test Wi-Fi as a pilot project. The amount of usage within just a short space of time proves the facility is needed and will be continue to be popular with library visitors. We consider the pilot to have been smoothly implemented and amazingly successful and based on this rapid take-up we are now reviewing extending our Wi-Fi services at some of our other libraries over the coming months”

Insight Media are seeing an increased growth in its wireless solutions being implemented in libraries throughout the UK and now have iCAM Wi-Fi hot spots in over 30 library authorities. Customers choosing our wireless solutions have the option for either local installations or the popular hosted managed Wi-Fi services provided from Insight’s data centre.
