Buckinghamshire Libraries have extended the opening hours at eight of their libraries by introducing Library Flex.
Library Flex allows registered members to visit their local library outside of regular staffed hours, using a simple card and PIN system, to borrow books, study, print documents, or just enjoy a quiet space.
During these extended opening hours, members can
Borrow, renew and return books
Relax, read, or study in a safe, monitored environment
Use free PCs and wi-fi
Print – either from library PCs or from their own device
Access council services via a dedicated phone
Insight Media worked closely with the library service to enable self-service access to PCs and printing services by integrating iCAM Workstation Control, Printer Control and Wireless Cloud Print with the library’s self-service kiosks. During unstaffed hours, members can access these services by logging into a self-service kiosk to pay for and release printing, ensuring that a full range of services is available during all opening hours.
The user interface is simple and intuitive, with iCAM features accessed on the kiosk by
scanning a library membership card or typing in a borrower number and selecting the
required service via the touch screen.
The print release service allows users to review and manage their own print jobs,
finalising paper size, colour/mono options, number of pages, and number of copies,
before paying for and releasing the job(s) to a printer.
Extending opening hours with the use of self-service technology means library members can access the services they need at a time that suits them.
